PETA For all those who have a soft spot in their heart for animals and believe they should be treated with dignity and compassion, consider giving a different kind of gift this year; a toy to a outdoor dog or some warmth on a cold night, in the name of one of your loved ones. For some " People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals", aka PETA is controversial, but no other animal rights organization that I'm aware of has passionately and tirelessly fought and raised awareness to the injustice that animals receive. In my experience it takes great passion to make great change. Read below and follow the link to learn more about the intentions of this 3 million member organization. Some of their" frequently asked question" answers, accomplishments and projects may surprise you. One thing is certain a gift of love to an animal is a worthy endeavor; animals rely on us to set the example of what it is to be kind and compassionate. Please join me in donating a minimum of $5-$10.00, in addition to whatever you are gifting someone, and include a simple gift of comfort to an animal this holiday. Please also read below to consider donating time with a past A Year of Gifting Friend-Kindness Ranch- what an amazing opportunity to experience giving in action! PETA-OUR MISSION STATEMENT People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members and supporters. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other "pests" as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. Even with a doghouse outdoor dogs suffer through the freezing cold each winter. But a layer of straw can provide insulation and warmth.

We have a higher mission-to be of service to them wherever they require it."-Francis of Assisi "Life is as dear to the mute creature as it is to a man. However, some great news has come our way and we want to share it with you right away, and see if you might be able to help. Kindness Ranch is getting sixteen dogs in mid-November! This is fantastic news for 16 of the countless animals used in research across the country. Getting these pups settled in to their new accommodations, though, will take a lot of work. Most of them will be unfamiliar with a loving environment, taking walks outdoors, socializing with other dogs etc, and we will desperately need help doing all of these things. We need many volunteers to come to the ranch and spend time with all of our new friends. Your time commitment at the ranch would be only four hours a day, or more if you want. This would be a wonderful opportunity for a dog and animal lover to come and spend time in a remote and very beautiful location, three hours north of Denver in the southeast part of Wyoming. (See www.KindnessRanch.org for much more information about the sanctuary.) We have wonderful accommodations for volunteers, and you will be welcome to come for a few days, a few weeks, or even a few months. Transportation funds are available. If you're interested, please contact Executive Director Mike Stabler, [email protected], 307-331-4569 as soon as you can. We're very excited to meet these wonderful dogs, and would love to have you help us transition them in to their new, loving homes. Thanks very much, David Hatch Board Member, Kindness Ranch Vegetarian Way, 1967.
